Leroy “Speck” Sipes

Leroy “Speck” Sipes, 81, a longtime resident of Knightstown and a former Maple Valley resident, died January 1 at Hancock Memorial in Greenfield.
He was born November 2, 1919 in Beardsley, MN, a son of the late Dennis and Della (Shoemaker) Sipes.
He retired from Hall Motor Sales in Knightstown after 31 years of service. He was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Mr. Sipes was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War 2 from Oct. 20, 1940 to September 24, 1945.
Survivors include his wide of 50 years, Patsy (Tumilty) Sipes of Knightstown; two daughters, Mariann (husband, Mike) Beane of Wilkinson; Kathy (husband, Steve) Ferrell of Greensboro; one son, Dana (wife, Donna) Sipes of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Josh Sipes, Amber Sipes and Stephanie Smith; one great grandson, Dawson Smith; three sisters, Fern Jackson of Carthage, Helen Morris of Knightstown, Maude Dilley of Indianapolis; three brothers, Richard Sipes of Anderson, Dale Sipes of Greenfield, Ed Sipes of Nineveh; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and nine brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 5 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Bill House officiating. Burial will take place in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation will be at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson Thursday, January 4 from 4-8 p.m.
