 Home Helpers Expand Locally

November 19, 2008 - Home Helpers of Knightstown is now able to provide its services to a wider population in the community. Home Helpers, a local personal service agency, has been in business for over three years, providing assistance with activities of daily living to seniors and those recuperating from serious illness or surgery. With a staff of approximately 20 personal care attendants, Home Helpers is able to provide services in the home to those in need, as far east as Centerville, and west to Greenfield, and from Rushville to New Castle. Services offered range from assistance with personal care (bathing and dressing), assistance with mobility, medication reminders, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and laundry, to transportation, errands and grocery shopping.

A criminal background check is completed on each new employee, and their references are thoroughly screened. They are trained and must pass an extensive competency test as well. They are also bonded and insured, and many of them are experienced as home health aides or certified nurses’ assistants.

Home Helpers has been through several very positive changes over the past year. The first was the move to their new location on Main St. The second was that they received their state licensure in March, just made available in 2008 to all personal service agencies. Licensure then allowed more clients to become reimbursed by their long-term care insurance plans, when applicable. Prior to licensure, insurance companies did not so readily reimburse clients for the services.

Home Helpers has also become Medicaid Waiver Certified. As a result, Home Helpers, now also has agreements with both LifeStream Services in Henry County and Area 9 Agency covering western Wayne and Rush Counties to provide services to clients who qualify for Medicaid Waiver services as well as other specially funded programs. The Veterans Administration also reimburses for services provided by Home Helpers.
