K-town FFA Members Kick-Off Busy Season

September 17, 2008 - During the summer of 2008 the Knightstown FFA participated in several events. To start off the season, members attended the Indiana State FFA Convention that took place June 16-19. Members David Winship, Micah Matlock and Brandi Lightner participated, along with approximately 9,000 fellow members on the Purdue University Campus in West Lafayette.

The students took part in the general sessions where members received awards, elected state officers for the 2008-2009 term, listened to guest speakers and displayed their talents on a stage. A week before the opening of the Indiana State Fair, members of Knightstown FFA, along with members from neighboring schools in District 9, which encompasses most of Henry County, took part in assembling and renewing the FFA pavilion for this year’s state fair. Duties consisted of cleaning the pavilion and building and painting displays.

At the Knightstown sale barn on August 23, the local FFA received donated a hog from Rodney Wisehart. The animal was sold for $200. Proceeds helped pay for upcoming events, such as the National FFA Convention which is held each year in Indianapolis in late October. There will be more FFA updates after the District 9 kick-off, which is this month, and the national convention.
