 Rush Co. Clean-up Sept. 13

August 27, 2008 - Clean Green Rush (your Rush County Solid Waste Management District) is hosting a County Clean Up on Saturday morning, September 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Rush County Conservation Club, located one mile east of Rushville on State Road 44.

Rush County residents can bring their old tires to be recycled. A firm from Peru will accept the tires and recycle 80 percent of the tire. Due to transportation costs, a small fee will be charged: $2 per tire under 18” - $7 per tire over 18” and $20 for really large tires, such as farm tractor tires.

Televisions will be accepted at $5 each and $10 if two people are required to move the unit. All other electronics - computers, monitors, printers, telephones, cell phones, scanners, receivers, microwaves, etc. (anything with a circuit board) can be dropped off at no charge.

Other items being collected September 13 at no charge include appliances, used motor oil, documents for secure shredding, unwanted medication, firearms and ammunition.

No household toxic chemicals such as oil-based paints, solvents, weed killer, pool chemicals, etc. will be accepted on September 13. By November, the Clean Green Rush Tox-away Center should be open at Smiley Avenue to ensure safe disposal of such items on a regular basis. Rush County residents will no longer have to store these items for a year at a time.

For more information check out the website www.CleanGreenRush.org; email recycle@rushcounty.in.gov, or call the office 765-938-1342.
