HKI Seeks Artists; Accepts Community Foundation Grant
August 20, 2008 - Historic Knightstown, Inc. (HKI) wants local artists to display their creative works at the organization’s annual Joyce Skaggs Hutcheon Art Show. The show will take place during the Knightstown Chamber of Commerce’s annual Hoosier Fall Fest on September 13-14.
Those interested in displaying their work, which may include paintings, drawings, stained glass, gourds, pottery, handwork, books, jewelry, etc., may contact Kathy Rummel at 345-9660 or Carolyn Myers at 345-5224. Display items may be delivered to the HKI museum, 22 N. Washington St., Public Square west, between 2-7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 12. Items may be picked up on Sunday, September 14, between 4-6 p.m.
Artists may off their entries for sale. The public is invited to view the entries during Hoosier Fall Fest. HKI will host a booth on the Public Square during the event and the public is invited to stop by and visit.
HKI recently received a $3,000 grant from the Henry County Community Foundation. The funds will be used to continue the group’s ongoing digital archiving project. “Our mission is to actively preserve the history of this community,” said HKI official Bob Myers. “Our organization was initially started to preserve the identity of century-old homes. We were actively involved in preserving the present Knightstown Academy (Academy Place Apartments) and the Hoosier Gym, both Indiana landmarks.”
According to Myers, HKI houses and displays items and memorabilia that reflect historical events of the past and present. Monthly meetings are conducted and several programs are presented by authors, artists, guest speakers, historians and preservationists. The museum is open 2-4 p.m. on Fridays, May through September, or by special arrangement. Admission is free. Call 345-5225 for more information.
