Volunteer Help Sought to Clean-up Local Trail
July 2, 2008 - Everyone wanting walking, biking, hiking trails in Henry County raise your hands! Now use them to help clear the area designated for the National Road Heritage Trail (NHRT) part of the proposed Raintree Trails system to be developed throughout Henry County.
Healthy Communities of Henry County is seeking assistance in clearing two miles of the proposed NRHT site that runs parallel to U.S. 40, the National Road. The work will involve picking up trash, tires, sawing felled trees and removing large dumped appliances and furniture which have accumulated along the roadside. The terrain is an abandoned railroad bed and the work will not be easy, but many hands make light work – especially when the work is exciting. How much more exciting can it be when you consider the benefit – to have a trail section completed and open within a year in southern Henry County.
Clean up dates for Ogden/Raysville section are July 8, 9 and 10 from 9 am-3 pm, weather permitting. Registration site will be at U.S. 40 and CR 425W.
Healthy Communities will provide trash bags, bug spray, food and water. A nurse will be on site to assist with any first aid needs. Another two-mile section of the NRHT in the Lewisville area will be cleared in August.
If you are interested in acquiring firewood please mention it when calling to register to volunteer. All interested volunteers may call Jeff Ray at 524.1753 or pick up a volunteer application at Henry County Health Department, 1209 Race St., or ICAP, 615 W St. Rd. 38.
