 Enhancement Grants Available

July 2, 2008 - In an effort to promote community-based planning, marketing, and restoration efforts, the state is making Downtown Enhancement Grants available to communities participating in the Indiana Main Street Program.

Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, along with representatives from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs and IMSP, recently announced that up to $150,000 in Downtown Enhancement Grants will be awarded this year. Applicants may request grants of up to $20,000.

According to a press release issued by OCRA, the grants are intended to help efforts improve the quality of life for residents and provide opportunities for increasing private investment and employment in Indiana's rural communities. A total of $213,600 in Downtown Enhancement Grants were awarded in 2007.

Projects that may qualify for funding include promotional campaigns, program branding, facade renovations or rehabilitations, establishment of revolving loan funds specific to Main Street activities, and other initiatives relating to Indiana Main Street communities' downtown areas. Downtown Enhancement Grant applications, which are due Aug. 1, are available by e-mailing Jo Grandel at jgrandel@ocra.IN.gov.

For more information on the grant program and eligibility for the IMSP, e-mail Grandel or call her at (317) 232-8910.
