State to Repay Henry County $1.3 Million
May 21, 2008 - Gov. Mitch Daniels issued an order last Friday requiring the state to repay local governments across Indiana $212 million by the end of May, including nearly $1.3 million to taxing units in Henry County.
According to a press release issued by Daniels' office, the state delayed $761 million in payments to K-12 schools, institutions of higher education and local governments starting in 2002. Repayments began in January 2006, and with the $212 million repayment just ordered last week - which Daniels' office says is being made a year ahead of schedule - this full amount of delayed payments will have been repaid.
The $212 million will be sent to the auditors of the state's 92 counties for distribution to appropriate local governments. Henry County is scheduled to receive $1,273,308, while Rush County and Hancock County will get, respectively, $644,616 and $1,955,017. Payments to other area counties include: Madison ($3,598,645); Delaware ( $3,727,238); Wayne ($2,344,314); Fayette ($770,584); and Randolph ($795,250).
