 4-H Livestock Enrollment Nears

April 30, 2008 - Spring is in full swing and so is the 4-H season. This means that livestock enrollment is quickly approaching. All livestock animals (beef, dairy, goats, horse and pony, sheep and swine) that will be exhibited at the 2007 Henry County 4‑H Fair and Indiana State Fair must be enrolled by the designated enrollment deadlines.

The dairy feeder steer enrollment deadline is Thursday, May 8. Dairy Feeder Steers must be enrolled, weighed, retinal scanned and visually identified by a tag at the Memorial Park fairgrounds between 6-8 p.m.

The sheep and goat enrollment deadline is Saturday, May 10. The 4-H Sheep Committee will be at the Memorial Park 4‑H barns in New Castle from 8-11 a.m. The Goat Committee will be identifying from 11:00 pm to 1:00 pm. You must bring sheep and goats at the designated times. All sheep and goats wethers must be enrolled, weighed, retinal scanned and visually identified by a tag.

All remaining livestock, which includes purebred beef heifers, dairy heifers, registered goat does, horse and pony and swine, must be enrolled by May 15. You must stop by the Extension Office to pick up a livestock enrollment form to register your animals.
