 Carthage Town Council Will Meet in Executive Session

February 20, 2008 - The Carthage Town Council will meet privately in executive session Monday to receive information about allegations of misconduct by a town employee.

According to a notice the town council faxed to The Banner earlier this week, Monday's executive session is scheduled to begin at 5:30 and will be held at Carthage Town Hall, 6 W. First St. The notice did not identify the employee alleged to have engaged in misconduct, or indicate the nature of the alleged misconduct.

While Indiana's Open Door Law generally requires public agencies to conduct their business during meetings that are open to the public, private executive sessions from which the public is excluded are permitted under some circumstances. One such circumstance is to receive information about an employee's alleged misconduct and to discuss the person's status as an employee, although any final action with respect to the matter must be taken during a public meeting.
