Henry Co. Candidates Declare; Commissioners Face Challengers

January 30, 2008 - As of Tuesday afternoon, 11 candidates, nine of them Republicans, had declared their candidacies for county offices that will be on the May primary ballot.

Phil Estridge, the Republican incumbent county commissioner for the southern district, filed his candidacy papers last Wednesday, the first day for filing.

So did two Republican challengers, Samuel Beckenbaugh and Glenn Anthony.

The Republican incumbent county commissioner for the middle district, Larry Hale, also filed his candidacy papers last Wednesday, and he, too, will face at least one inter-party challenge.

Former Henry County Sheriff Kim Cronk, a Republican county council member, filed his candidacy papers for this commissioner seat on the first day as well.

Others who have declared their candidacies for county office include Republicans Harold Griffin (county council, at large), Don Shaw (county council, at large), Bob Veach and Richard Byers (surveyor).

Only two Democrats have filed, Stacey Guffey (coroner) and Jeffrey Hancock (county council, at large).

Candidates have until noon on February 22 to file their declarations of candidacy for the May 6 primary with the Henry County Clerk.
