CAB to Hold Public Forum on Supt. Search
January 30, 2008 - The Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation is moving forward with steps to find a new superintendent.
At the school board’s Jan. 15 meeting, Board President Mike Fruth announced that CAB has now posted its superintendent vacancy, which has existed since July 1 of last year, with the Indiana Department of Education. The DOE website indicates that this job listing was posted with the DOE on December 17.
Fruth also said CAB had posted the superintendent vacancy with the Indiana School Boards Association and with University Team consultants that will be working with CAB on its superintendent search. Jena Schmidt, CAB's public access officer and administrative assistant to interim superintendent Ray Pavy, said she had sent about 200 copies of the job vacancy announcement to the ISBA, which she said will send them out to member school corporations.
To assist with its search for a replacement for David McGuire, a University Team recommendation who left CAB last summer after just one year, the board plans to hold a public forum to get community feedback on the search process. This special public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, in the KHS cafeteria.
Responding to a question from board member Ron Womack, Fruth declined to impose a time limit on the forum. "I'm not opposed to being there as long as it takes to get comments from everybody," Fruth said, adding that he thought the public's input on the issue is important.
In another personnel matter, the board voted unanimously at the Jan. 15 meeting to amend the contract of Shirley Heck, principal for Carthage and Kennard elementary schools. Heck's contract for the current school year will be reduced from 215 to 210 days, with a corresponding reduction in pay, to allow Heck more time with her grandchildren.
The board also voted, with member Kevin Knott abstaining, to appoint Chris Underwood as the girls track coach at Knightstown Intermediate School. No action was taken on a recommendation to appoint KIS teacher Vee Ann Schmidt as the girls tennis coach. (More CAB news will be included in next week's Banner. - Ed.)
