Knightstown Library Board to Honor Lois Brooks

January 2, 2008 - The Knightstown Public Library Board of Trustee and library staff will hold a special reception Tuesday to honor longtime board member Lois Brooks, whose fourth and final term ended December 31.

Brooks, a kindergarten teacher for Rush County Schools and former president of the library board, had been one of three members appointed to the library board by the Charles A. Beard School Board. In addition to her service on the library board, Brooks is also a member of Tri Kappa and the Avon Club, and has been an active member of the Knightstown community.

To show their appreciation for Brooks' years of service to library and its patrons, the library board and staff are holding a reception from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The reception, which follows the library board's monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m., is open to the public, and all patrons and friends of the library are encouraged to attend. In addition to the vacancy created by Brooks' departure, Librarian Mary Miller told The Banner that the seven-member library board also has two other positions to fill. Miller said board member David Blower resigned his position effective December 31 and that member John Fiega resigned earlier this fall.

According to Miller, Blower, like Brooks, had been appointed to the library board by the CAB School Board, which will fill those two vacancies. Miller said the Knightstown Town Council, which had appointed Fiega and one other member, will choose his replacement. The other two members are appointed by the county. Library board members are appointed for four-year terms and must have lived in Knightstown at least two years prior to their appointment. State statute limits their service to no more than four consecutive four-year terms.

Persons interested in filling any of the three vacancies on the library board should contact the CAB School Board and Knightstown Town Council.
