Habitat for Humanity Tax Credit Valuable Asset

October 17, 2007 - Recently, Raintree Habitat for Humanity received a tax credit award in the amount of $11,900 from the State of Indiana to assist in its efforts to raise funds to build affordable Habitat homes in Henry County. Donors who give $100 or more to this cause will receive half of their donation back in the form of a state income tax credit.

Currently, over $9,000 in tax credits remain to be given away. All Henry County residents and companies who pay state income tax are encouraged to consider supporting Habitat’s efforts to eliminate poverty housing in Henry County by participating in this program. When this year’s supply of tax credits are gone, this particular program will end.

It takes around $43,000 to build each local Habitat house, much in part due to the generosity of local businesses, contractors and volunteers who donate goods, services and labor. In addition to sweat equity, Habitat Homeowners are required to make a no-interest monthly payment to pay back the costs involved in building their home. Their payments as well as any donations that are received are invested in the next home that is built.

Habitat’s mission is to eliminate poverty housing throughout the world. Henry County’s need is great! Families are waiting for decent, affordable homes in which to raise their families. While our local affiliate has been able to recently increase its pace of house construction, funding necessary to continue this pace has diminished. Help is needed!

Raintree Habitat for Humanity, established in Henry County in 1991, is an authorized affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Locally, Habitat is working on its 15th home in Kennard. Internationally, Habitat has built over 225,000 homes, housing well over one million people. To donate to our local Habitat affiliate and also take advantage of the current tax credit program or to volunteer at a work site, please contact Executive Director, Cary Plummer, at 521-0723 or cplummer@insightbb.com.
