CAB Board Meeting Tuesday
June 6, 2007 - To accommodate wedding plans for the school corporation's superintendent, the Charles A. Beard School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting for June one week ahead of schedule.
Superintendent David McGuire notified the board in March that the dates of his upcoming marriage and honeymoon conflicted with the board's normal practice of meeting on the third Tuesday of each month. At McGuire's request, the board agreed to advance its June 19 meeting to June 12.
One item of business the board is expected to address at next week's meeting is the recommended elimination of four positions at CAB for the 2007-2008 school year. Those positions include the elementary school social worker, a mental health counselor for the high school and intermediate school, a high school business teacher and a gifted and talented teacher at Knightstown Intermediate School.
McGuire recommended in April that these four positions and the choral music teacher be cut for the upcoming school year to anticipated shortfalls in CAB's General Fund. While the board voted unanimously during a special meeting on May 25 not to renew choral music teacher Jan Crouch's teaching contract for next year, it has not taken any official action on the other four recommended cuts.
Immediately following the May 25 special meeting, McGuire was asked when the board was expected to make the other four cuts. He said he believed the board had acted at the April meeting with respect to these positions.
A review of minutes from the board's April meeting, however, showed that the only action taken by the board that night was to give McGuire permission to notify the persons holding the positions targeted for elimination.
