Heating Help Available
April 18, 2007 - Up to 15 Indiana nonprofit agencies will receive grants up to $10,000 each through Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana’s (Vectren; NYSE: VVC) Nonprofit Weatherization Grant program (NWG). The NWG is part of Vectren’s new Conservation Connection initiative, which offers residential and small commercial customers the tools and resources to help lower energy bills.
Through the NWG, Vectren, in collaboration with the Indiana Community Action Network, will assist nonprofit agencies with energy efficiency measures. Through a certified on-site energy audit, these grants will help the agencies pinpoint opportunities for energy savings within their offices and then provide the resources to make the necessary weatherization upgrades to achieve those savings.
Applications are due by May 18, 2007, and the simple, two-page application can be downloaded at www.incap.org or by calling 1-800-382-9895. Energy-saving measures include adding insulation, installing high-efficiency gas appliances and sealing ducts and leaks.
To qualify the nonprofit agency must:
*Own their building/office (no renters);
*Reside in a residential-style or small commercial building;
*Be a 501(c)3 organization;
*Be a Vectren natural gas customer in Indiana;
*Not have received weatherization services in the past five years; and
*Demonstrate the ability to leverage additional resources (financial or service-related) to complete the recommended weatherization upgrades.
Applications should be mailed to: Indiana Community Action Association, Attn: Vickie Allen-Beeson, 1845 West 18th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Grant recipients will be selected and notified by the first of June 2007, and energy audits will begin in mid-June 2007.
