Eder Business Professionals Make Trip to Indianapolis for Leadership Conference

March 28, 2007 - Early on the morning of March 4, four members of the Morton Memorial Chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) headed downtown Indianapolis to attend the BP A State Leadership Conference. All four attendees Ashley Lightfoot (Morton Memorial), Kayce Lowhorn (Tri High), Jenna Janney (Tri High), and Krista Coy (Knightstown), started our day as soon as we checked into the Marriot Hotel downtown. Over our three-day stay we experienced growth of leadership and professionalism through everything from attending sessions with motivational speakers to listening to campaign speeches. Our jammed-packed weekend was not only a rigorous business environment. We also had time to kick off the high heels and explore the city. Therefore the growth of friendship through mingling with each other as well as with other chapters of BPA was accomplished. Our time in Indianapolis was well spent.

I believe that each member would agree that waking up early paid off well. Each attending member was recognized for receiving Torch Awards. The Torch Award program recognizes achievements, participation, goodwill" and community service through seven different categories. To achieve this reward each BP A member had to attain 50 points in each category of Leadership, Service, Cooperation, Knowledge, Friendship, Love/Hope/Faith, and Patriotism. Every member continues to strive for 70 points in each category to achieve the next level of recognition.

Jenna Janney especially had a successful journey, as well as a flourishing year. As a student of the Graphic Communications Career Program here at Eder, Jenna entered the Graphic Design Competition at the regional level. After working diligently on designing a logo and promotional poster, Jenna placed first in her district at the regional competition. She then advanced onto state. We are pleased to announce that Jenna received third place at the state level. We wish Jenna good luck as she takes her appealing design for final judging in New York.

All four girls along with their advisor, Mrs. Dooley, will be attending the National Leadership Conference at New York City in May. Each girl is excited about this once-ina-lifetime experience.

These members of Business Professionals of America would like to thank every business and organization that has helped contribute to making the New York trip possible. We would like to express our gratitude to every business for giving us the opportunity to experience the grand city of New York while developing professionalism.
