 County Buying New Vehicles

March 14, 2007 - The Henry County Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution last week authorizing the lease-purchase of 10 new vehicles for the Henry County Sheriff's Department.

According to draft minutes from the commissioner's afternoon meeting on Monday, March 5, the new vehicles carry a total cash price of $169,536.68, with an annual interest rate at 5.86 percent. The vehicles are being financed over five years.

Henry County Sheriff Butch Baker told The Banner on Tuesday that eight of the vehicles went to detectives and members of the Henry County Area Drug Task Force. He said the other two are actually for the county's building inspector and the park department, but were included with the HCSD's purchase to secure a better deal for the county.

Baker said the vehicles came from Blossom Chevrolet on the east side of Indianapolis, which he said provided the lowest bid, and that all but one have been picked up. As for the eight vehicles going to detectives and drug task force members, Baker said they are all unmarked and don't have the standard police packages used in regular patrol vehicles.

In addition to the vehicles from Blossom, Baker told The Banner that the HCSD also obtained four new marked vehicles last week. He estimated the cost for these Ford Crown Victorias, which are equipped with police packages, at about $21,000 apiece.
